Performance and Character Week 12: 12/12/18: Showreel refinement

Creating the showreel in Premier Pro.

I had recently received feedback from Johny regarding my showreel and he was impressed with it but suggested that I used the template that James had made for us. Primarily because it had a frame counter on it. The primary version I had done the mock up piece was to get Johny's opinion so that I could refine it better for submission.

With this new found information I downloaded the template and opened it in a new sequence in Premier pro and the template was in the new graphic section. I added the animations that I included and pieced a new reel together. Earlier on I had acquired some music from a site that James our ICT tutor suggested Free Music Archive. Looking through the music I listened carefully as Johny said it needed a certain beat I found three candidates but used my first one called breathing.

I was feeling like I was in a scene from a Studio Ghibli anime and it harmonised with the animations I was feeling at peace. I did have some concerns regarding the Dialogue exercise but Johny told me to lower the volume on the dialogue section so it would be heard. This made sense as Holly one of the students said not to get rid of the dialogue and it seemed she was right as this was one of the exercises I worked the hardest on besides the short story and to get rid of the dialogue for the short story was like erasing two weeks of work.

I felt rather impressed with the showreel as it looked more professional than the first version and had music to harmonise with it. The inclusion of the old Maya piece would show the potential client that I can adapt but do have some issues with 3D software and rigs.
Looking back at my showreel I would think it looked very good and responded to the criteria of the brief and our submission.  However I still have my concerns about releasing this to clients. In hindsight I should've considered making my title script more professional as a student would. However the reel communicated my specialisms in 2D and Stopmotion animation.

In conclusion I am very pleased with this show reel and the exercises that I have included. In future I shall ask for further opinions on my work and consider carefully which versions of the exercises to include.
