Uni day 1&2:
My journey into university education had begun and I was feeling nervous my heart was in my throat and I wasn't sure what to expect. However on first impressions at our introduction activities I had met a lot of interesting people and we even shared common interests in anime, video games and even surprising hobbies. The teachers were very kind as well and very funny I had a feeling I was going to fit in well at this university and my course.
Day 2: Ambitious flight squad
For todays induction activity we were introduced to our animation base room where we could go to discus our interests and even draw up plans for our projects. This to me seemed a rather interesting element to this university something we didn't have back in college. We took part in a group bonding exercise so we could get to know each other more by writing down secrets and interesting facts about each other on a sheet of paper to play people bingo. I was rather surprised about some of the students hobbies particularly Madelyns old hobby of creating sonic fan characters this was something I shared with her as I wrote sonic fan comics and stories on my tumblr blog hero central. During lunch I was invited to lunch with Grace, Madelyn and Georgia and we seemed to get along very well. We then began another group activity that involved creating a flying machine from used materials wood, glue guns, and paper sticks.
We worked together with another student named Ben and we built a plane that looked like a mosquito a mixture of some of our favourite films Nausicaa of the valley of the wind, Tinkerbell and Furnguly. Though I did burn myself on the glue gun a few times we worked well on this plane and the other models that students made were very creative too.
We then set on a walk of Media City UK the very hub of our television programmes the BBC and even ITV for someone who wishes to work in the animation and television industry this was indeed hallowed ground. I took in the sights and even saw the famous Blue Peter garden which I must admit was much smaller than it looked on the TV but was good to see none the less. We then arrived at a sculpture near the War museum and it was the focus of one of our induction tasks.
We had to think of what this sculpture of dock yard objects looked to us and I personally thought this as a scene from a film or an animation I may do in the future on this course. A story tellers mind is much more unique than the normal mind he or she can see things differently and I saw in my mind a dock yard at night desolated and silent until two cars drive up facing each other and out of them come gang members negotiating a sale of goods whilst the hero of this scene watches from high on the crates ready to take them down. We were then shown to the Lowery outlet and gallery where we could go for lunch in our breaks. The University was also next door to a pub named the Dockyard and it seemed to have a rather interesting menu, this is something I may wish to consider for late tea consumption and otherwise.
We came here to talk to some game students or go our separate ways I sadly had to leave to see the Library one to one but hoped to revisit this bar before leaving. Overall I would say my first two days at university were very insightful and fun to meet new people that share a common interest in animation.
