Performance and Character: Week 12: 12/12/18: Animation refinement and showreel.

During this week of the module I have been working to refine and fine tune my animation exercises for submission. I continued work on my climb exercise and would also work on doing the baby walk and also add some adjustments to the short story. In completing my work I worked on doing my show reel for the submission.

Working on my climb piece.

When working on my climb animation one element I changed was the throw from an under armthrow to an over head throw as many in the group found this would look better and so I deleted the under arm throw keyframes and placed in some over arm throw frames instead. For fine tuning my child walk one thing I remembered from the review was how the child should spend more time in the puddle he jumped into. So I altered the frames to have the child fall onto its bottom and clap happily in the puddle whilst showing the water ripples with shrinking circle animations.

With the time I had left I did some work on my showreel for the module and created new credit and ending slates and added my bad animations as deleted cuts as our tutor Johny suggested.

refining the child walk.

Looking back on my short story it seemed that there were a few bugs such as the jump when the golfer moves into place to hit the ball and when he storms off. To correct this I added an in-between to show a smoother transition and added more frames to the walk to show a much slower departure and to show the anger in his foot steps.

During this time I was feeling rather confident in what I was doing and knew what needed to be altered. However I did find some elements difficult such as the over head throw, given how I needed to move different body parts at different times and adding some squash and stretch to the landing of his foot.

Another difficult element for me was having the child rock back onto its back and standing up again. I felt rather unsure when doing these moves but I looked back to my reference footage and it helped tremendously and even showed some animation principles. During the start I was worried I wouldn't be able to do all this work in one day but I am impressed with what I have accomplished. However I did have a few concerns about my show reel and I feel I must address these with Johny.

Looking back on my work I would think I have done a rather good job with all my work. However I feel I could've improved on certain things. One of which being doing my show reel as while I knew what to do I wasn't clear on factors such as the dialogue exercise as music would be introduced to it. I think to improve I need to show Johny for his opinion on the matter.

I was making sense of what I had to do and could see the benefits of having feedback from my peers to refine and alter the animations at a later date.

In conclusion I am pleased with what I have produced and will seek advice from my tutor on the current state of my show reel. In future I shall ask for further details on the matter before I proceed in doing them.
