Intro to the Making of: week 11:1/5/18: PECHA KUCHA presentations:

In week 11 of Intro to the Making of it was time to present our Pecha Kucha presentations to the group. I was rather nervous about presenting to the group and about my presentation in general whether I would say the right things or whether I incorporated the right material. We were using a spinning wheel that Declan had found on the internet for children's maths, and it would be what selects the students to come up first. It selected me first which I felt was predictable as over this module I went first for most of the presentations to encourage the group.

A timer was set for about 16 minutes, given we had 20 seconds on each slide, so I had to be very concise in telling my slides.

In my presentation I had a list of things to talk about such as my favorite subjects and what I learned from them such as the Rostrum animation which encouraged me to pursue motion animation. This also included some of my inspirational material that went into my story telling module which was watching Batman Gotham by Gaslight, giving me the idea to pursue the 19th century angle for my work. I mentioned how whenever I get stressed I watch Voltron seasons 3-5 to get perspective and to get away from the stress, even expressing how I didn't like that Shiro was leading the new team and that they should put Keith back in charge come season 6. Otherwise I felt my presentation went well and so I went to watch others approaches to the presentations.

What I liked about the presentations particularly Beth's was the way they were laid out, hers was like a computer game given the bright colours and text. However as the presentations went by they also mentioned how others helped their development what they did in their downtime, and how they thanked everyone for their help and getting to know them better. I felt I should've added something similar to my own presentation.

One thing that I found to be a common factor in some presentations like Ollie's, Axels and Niall's which I liked was our common hatred of Maya and buckid this did inspire me to approach a possible animation idea later on in the week. Some of the presentations went over the time limit as they had a lot to talk about and I liked how Adam included some of the live brief work much like I did as he wanted to learn pitching an idea and this was the best way to do it.

Kira's work was done in chronological order including what she did in her downtime. I took notice of Maddie's presentation of how she moved house and tried to make ice buns which she claimed didn't work so well, but I felt you shouldn't judge a boom by its cover. What I found to be an interesting element was how the other group members like Declan included big moments in their lives such as moving in with his girlfriend which I did think was a good element to mention as it described his independence and progression over the years.

Looking back over the presentations, I felt I'd learned a lot from what the group felt was their best parts of the year of the animation course and that I wasn't the only one who hated Maya. In retrospect I would've done some elements differently such as in my presentation  I would've included that I book bind in the down time I have and my more recent accomplishments, I would also have included one of my driving influences being Nick Park one of my role models in Animation and what pursued me to take on the course to begin with and shown that I liked working with other members of the group. These would be things to consider as would be the way I talked about my slides as I felt I didn't give enough information.

In conclusion I believe I did a good job on my presentation and enjoyed talking about what I liked over the course of our first year at university. In future I shall deeply consider what I would like to approach in my presentation and what is best to mention and the time it would take.
