| Mock up essay 4 |
I had recently finished a second essay draft of my near final version and I decided to use it in another mock up design of my magazine format this time using inspiration from the comic drawing magazine I purchased a while back. I looked and saw that there were a lot of images in the articles, but it seems there were some text in the top corner describing a certain image or subject.
One element I picked up on was the title in the corner of the page. I decided to follow the principle and add the essay logo in the corner, but I did even more so adding the comic boarder in the A-master pages, which did add more to the comic book/artwork feel to the work. However looking back at the essay draft I couldn't help but wonder if the visual development and perspective work were out of order in the essay and in the magazine. So I decided to rearrange the page order of the magazine have the perspective artist example first followed by the visual development work.

Looking at the layout of the visual development page it looked rather bleak and it did have fewer text and images. Clearly I would either need to work on the presentation or revisit the original version, however this was an experiment with layout so this was to be expected. I was proud with the way I had arranged the artists pages and had some of the images surrounded with boarders which I thought was a good way of joining images together.
I felt the creative thinking area needed some improvement and I was tempted to add a diagram of the 6 thinking hats which I recently learned was a form of something called parallel thinking which was an example of creative thinking, but it wasn't mentioned in the essay but I may consider rewriting a few things in the essay and have the method mentioned as a picture. In the conclusion/personal view area I felt I needed to improve the arrangement of the images so using my new knowledge of images in art magazines I had small sketches as small sized images whilst things like the coloured animatic storyboard scenes would take up a majority of the page. This was also keeping mind Johny's suggestion of Horror Vacui (not leaving any empty spaces).
Looking at the bibliography I noticed it was missing some references such as the one for the Art of Big Hero 6 for some of the images I used. So I referred back to my statement of intent for the links and copied them into the bibliography. I was rather pleased with this second mock up design, and it seemed to be an improvement, I would need to address the issue of the creative thinking sections lack of images and may look at rewriting my essay to mention the other methods of thinking.
In hindsight I should've talked to Johny regarding this issue and see what his opinion would be on the matter of the creative thinking section. In conclusion I believe I'm making steady progress with my magazine design and essay, when I receive feedback I shall make it into a final design if the draft is given the okay. In future I may consult my tutors or other members of the group on the matter of images for the creative thinking area to see what they think.
