Week 11 of Animation context, was a session of presenting and discussing what we had been doing so far on our magazine/essays. This exercise was strictly a way for us to boost our confidence when talking to the group in presentations much like when we first began this course in the expert in the room or the 360 presentation. I felt this was a good use of time to show what we were all doing and why we were doing it. I went first discussing my essay subject of the Importance of Concept art in Animation.
I was feeling rather nervous as I wasn't sure what to mention about my work but as the presentation got underway I got confident in explaining my points and my reasons for approaching concept art and showing what I had done so far. Johny and Annabeth were giving feedback as were the rest of the group and Johny could see that I'd used influence from Lichtenstein in my magazine bubble assets and he was correct in some way. We then listened to the other groups presentations and I could tell when Adam was talking about pitching ideas in animation he was particularly passionate about the subject and that the live brief work that we did for Transpennine Express was a chance to pitch our work to potential clients.
I found Munty's presentation about the 12 tips for better performance to be of an interest, in terms of characters especially when he mentioned how we should "Have an objective for your character sense of sympathy" and the relationships about how the characters feel. I felt that this could be worth me investigating for my side projects over the summer break. We had some comedy in some of the presentations such as Hollys work on physical comedy such as Bugs Bunny pulling out an anvil from his pocket. We asked what some of the students favourite things were such as favourite games relating to Stuarts presentation on Video game animation rule change, and how things change in game animation over time which I felt was rather true in some way.
Kieran and Aidens essay presentation reports like mine were focused in the pre production area, Aidens was concept art and Kierans was Storyboarding which according to his research was 80% of the pre production phase which was very true. Ollie's presentation I felt connected to the most as it was about looking back on the past of animation to see past work that got animation where it is today. This I understood it was a fact that I included in my video essay for animation history.
Looking back on this session I would think that today has helped us gain more confidence in presenting our work to the group. There are some areas that I would particularly like to improve upon, perhaps I could've explained why I decided to pursue the subject of concept art for my essay such as my idea to pursue it as a career as an artist and finding the inspiration of artwork from films. I may also include some of my favourite concept artists like Loish for example.
In hindsight I should've mentioned more about my chosen research sources in my essay and their significance. In conclusion though this session has been insightful and has given me much to think about for my essay and what to look up in my spare time to aid in my own character development work. In future I shall consider what points are worth mentioning in my presentation work and make sure to include my inspiration and some of my ideas for the future of the module.
