Animation 102:12/3/18: Perfecting the walk cycle:

On my day off, I decided to do some work on my animation 102 work and perfect my walk, using one of my more refined pieces from last week. I wanted to work on lifting the feet in the walk as in some walks the feet lifted up slightly before touching the ground. Therefore I implemented a similar element into the walking animation. The key was to make sure it was in a passing point of the walk before it made the contact point. To aid me, I looked through the animation by dragging along the timeline then using translate "Y" on the foot I key framed that section as it lifted off the ground and then down again.

This was repeated on the other foot movements in the rig and when played back it seemed to look more realistic. I then played it back once again and it seemed to perform very well. This was then play blasted to show the group on facebook for a second opinion. However, there seemed to be an issue, when I play blast the animation it didn't seem to show the rendered video, I tried again but it did the same thing, after multiple tries I did play play blast the animation but looking at the video it looked like it was coming apart at the seams. I was concerned, if I couldn't play blast my animation to show the group it would jeopardise my work on the course.

This was an issue I would have to address with James tomorrow and possibly bring in my mac computer to show him what happened. Looking back I would think I was making progress with the walk, although I couldn't help but wonder if there was more that I could've done to the walk. In hindsight I should've made the arms move slightly as the character walked along to make it look real and see if I could receive some feedback on the arm movements. In hindsight I should've realised the play blast issue was something only an expert on the matter could solve and my usual source of computer knowledge is the internet I was still new to the technical side of Maya.

In conclusion I would think I'm getting close to perfecting my walk and hopefully the feedback I gain from Johnny will help in furthering my understanding of the matter of a walk in Maya. One thing though is clear I need to get this issue of the Play blast function fixed in order to  play blast more of my animations to show the group my current progress.

In future if this incident with the playlist does occur I will seek professional opinions and advice. In the walks I would possibly leave time for doing the arm movements to show my development in the matter. I may revisit this over the easter break.
