Intro to the making of semester 2: Week 5: 27/2/18: Essay preparation and Research:

Despite the snowy weather conditions and delays of students todays session was about discussing with Annabeth about what we'd stated in our statements of intent for the video essay and what to consider doing. This was also a chance to conduct research for our storytelling projects as the next lesson was focused around life drawing. In talking to Annabeth she suggested if I was doing a research based video, I needed to create a Zoetrope in the maker space and in terms of the green screen element of my essay I needed to look into booking the green screen room. Annabeth advised that I talk to the staff in room 0.07 to see when I can book some time as its prone to being busy with the media students.

I was concerned as in order to book the room I would need to have something to work with such as the Zoetrope model or a script to read from for the performance. However she said booking the room early would give me a deadline to work to but given the work load from Animation context and 102 I wasn't entirely certain about this. Upon finishing our discussion I did some image research for my story telling project looking at furry art (animals that look human) as I was considering this as an alternate character design and steer for my project. For now though I was finishing the charger designs in human before I pursued this further.

The aspect I was looking at was the 19th century fashion and into possible design ideas for ballerina outfits to use in the design process. I saved some very inspiring ideas to my design board to be later added to my journal for inspiration mood boards. I was getting a feel from these pinterest ideas and it was beginning to boost my creative thinking ideas. At the same time however, I was considering what Annabeth had told me, I realised i did need a time frame to work to but in order to do so I would need to work out how to do this work between the work loads of Context and Animation 102. So by sessions end talked to Annabeth about this matter and advised that I make a schedule to work with to do the script and background elements for the green screen.

In addition she advised to talk to the green screen people as soon as possible because if I couldn't get an earlier booking it would be too late. I took this under advisement, and looking back on the session I did a good job on research, however I would've done things differently. I would've got straight to the green screen room to check for any bookings within the next few weeks or in the next month and get a slot booked and work to that day to get things ready. I would also have done some research into the history element of animation to give me a starting point on the script and what to say in the video.

The situation would've been helped along if I had just gone to look straight away, and then work on doing the research elements of the project rather than just do work on the storytelling project. In future I will look into the matter straight away and start my research in preparation for the set deadline for the booking. Overall though the session was insightful and gave me much to think about and looking at the booking for the green screen room will be a main priority for this module but it needs to be at the right moment.
