Intro to creative play Week:12: 13/12/17: Final touches and submission: Alexander Montgomery @00491819

Description:

The day for our animation submission had finally come and we still had a lot of work to do to get our work submitted on time. Myself, Beth and Jolanta had completed our animations whilst Kieran had to still do the voices for his animation contribution to the team. Whilst he worked on his animation Beth asked me to work on a powerpoint presentation for our group which while surprising as I didn't think we needed a presentation as was Beth she had gained information that some of the other teams were doing a presentation when we were showing our work. So using power point I worked on doing the presentation for the group and using input suggestions and elements to include from the group. Materials for images and videos could be found on the google drive that Beth had set up for us to store our work for the project be it work in progress animations or final pieces.

Whilst working I took note on what Jolanta and Beth said whilst discussing things such as how the difficult elements of the project were the lip synching and the fact that none of us had done 2D animation before and anything they suggested I took note and placed in the presentation. Beth worked on typing up the scripts from our work digitally to include in the drive and I handed her my script from yesterday so she could type it up. Later on Beth said the instagram account wouldn't work given that we had rendered our animations in different formats and wouldn't download. So we did an alternative for our social media approach and that was Youtube, Beth created an account and we each submitted our animations for the playlist and the banner of our youtube account. I included the link to the playlist in the presentation and the link to the google drive, as I realised Annabeth would want to see it.

I took the time to help Kieran with his animation and timing of his lip-synching and speech spoken in his work. This would help him to get his piece submitted for the playlist. We looked for a quiet place to work and generously Johnny gave us access to the sound booths in the building, which was a new element for us. Thankfully though we didn't need the equipment as like me Kieran was using his phone to record the voices for his work and he needed my help for his bus character and I was happy to help. We recorded the voices and then he added it to his animation. Before recording we timed the script and whilst there was an instance where we lost it the script was quickly found. Upon completion his animation was placed on the youtube playlist with our animations and the work was added to the google drive for Annabeth to look at later.

We saved the presentation to the drive and my own pen drive as a back up then we took it down to the showing area near the cafeteria. Everyone else pieces were up and some were 3D sets such as Paige and Ollie's work and Holly and Niall's work which had a time lapse of the city passing by on a 3d map of the city it was very impressive. Our work was added to the big screen animations along with the other groups using Premier Pro and we included my title sequence as a screen transition but the time was altered so that it didn't take long in the slide show, and she even showed how to alter the volume of the characters voices in terms of Jolantas and Beth's animation voices as they said they were rather quiet despite altering them for the youtube playlist earlier. It was clear the lesson from this was to perhaps learn a bit more about Premier pro as it can go to places after effects couldn't such as sound and timing.

When our animations were on display we gave our presentation and were told what we needed to submit for our work such as our team report which could be a simple copy and paste job from our presentations ours was a case in point meaning it would be simple enough to do over the Christmas break. Our other priorities was making sure our blogs were up to date and converted to PDF via blogbooker which was shown to us in Animation 101 last week.

Feelings:

During the time we worked on the presentation and our playlist I was feeling that we were starting to work together like clockwork despite the odd complication in our plans. I was feeling slightly nervous as I wasn't sure what the other groups were doing and what their work would be like but one thing that I felt confident with was making sure to take note of everything that the group was saying that should be included in the presentation and that we agreed to take turns in presenting our work and that if others didn't feel like speaking Beth and myself felt sure to talk for the presentation.

Evaluation:

Looking back on today I would think that whilst we worked on the presentation at the last minute we still got the presentation done and included what needed to be included in record time. One thing that we could improve on would be perhaps making sure that we all include our work in the google drive so that we can work at a faster pace in creating the playlist or putting together the presentation for the other groups to see. Otherwise we managed to create our presentation in record time and not get a late submission on our animation work given the time given to us it just shows how if you put your mind to it you can achieve your desired goals.

Analysis:

Looking closely at our work from today It would make sense that there would be a possible presentation in our animation work showing what we did and what I could possibly find surprising would be the fact what we included in our presentations we could use in our team reports for when we submit our work, come January.

Conclusion:

Looking back on our work in the lesson I  would think that despite some of our work not being ready for doing the playlist we worked together to try and compensate whilst the rest of the team worked on the playlist and the google drive. One thing that I would personally think the team could work on is conduct further team meetings to see where each of us were up to and see if we needed help with a certain element of our work so that when the submission day came we would be able to work in synch and get our work ready for the playlist and to work on the presentation. Otherwise we worked well together despite our differences and the way we see our teammates we still work to complete our task.

Action Plan:

If we are asked to be a group again be it with the same people or people that we used to work with I possibly think that the first thing we would do is discuss what are areas of expertise is so that we can delegate which area of the project to work on and list down possible themes for our project. We could also conduct meetings be it in our spare time or at the end of the day, but given this was our first team project I would think that there were lessons to learn from our time together and the work that we produced with each other.
