Over the course of the joint module I have kept a sketchbook of all the sketches and digital art work I have done for the production bible and animation.
Some of my favourite sketches would be the design work I had done for the many backgrounds of Beelive, because its given me the chance to do more work with background artwork and the use of perspective drawing. I did work with perspective for the interior and landscape based backgrounds as that is the purpose it was made for. However with feedback from Stephen I've tried to steer away from perspective to do more 3D like drawings.
Some of my bee design work was very effective as it showed the progression of my design process from its cute looking design to a more cool appealing look to 12 year olds. The life drawing aspect of the bees helped me to better refine my designs. This did remind me how useful that the art of life drawing could be when doing cartoon like animations. I used a mood board of bees to help me in my design process to give me ideas of shape and appearance.
Photos of existing environments also helped in designing the park, forest and houses within the animation.
Looking at some of my digital artwork I would think that I have done a good job on it though it has had to undergo some refinements. My feedback from Stephen suggested I needed to add more realistic detail within the backgrounds and look at better perspectives. Thankfully with the use of tutorials I was able to do more painting like backgrounds. This module has given me the chance to look at some of the other tools on Clip Studio paint to see what other effects or realistic textures I could create from them such as the chalk tool or even the watercolour brushes. Some of my favourites were the shed interior and the woodlands as they looked more painted and looked like something a concept artist would produce for his or her work.
Other elements included floor plans for some of our locations. Some we never used in the final animation such as the theme park location. I was rather pleased with the simple cell shaded backgrounds of my work as they also acted as potential style frames for our work.
The development of the bee and logo design was something I was keen on doing as it would be something I was planing to later animate for the animation and the turnaround sheet proved very useful when doing the bee animation.
Looking back on my work I would think I have done exceptional work on my concept art for this project and that some of the elements were used in the final animation. However I feel perhaps I could've added more to the artwork maybe add a few designs that Kieran could use to inspire his character creation process. The feedback from Stephen has proved useful in developing my artwork and has made me consider painting in Photoshop for more industry based projects.
In conclusion my work is satisfactory and has been most useful in doing the animation work. In future I shall consider other elements or inspiration to look at for my work and design process.
