The day before the new year I did some work on the making of video for the module. Stephen was originally in charge of doing the making of video, but later on in the month we decided to switch roles and I would do the making of video while he did the Team report.
I feel this made more sense and so he sent me what he'd done thus far and whilst it looked good I felt like it needed some improvements. Looking back on the brief the making of vid was to be 10 minutes long so I would need to try and condense it.
Stephen's response was good and I would keep some elements but some improvements included the timing of his clips from our inspirations with the speech dialogue and not showing some finished animation clips from my side of the project. It was now my job to tidy it up.
I set to work importing the clips into premier and began piecing it together. Starting with our refined opening with a title sequence then moving to team introductions. I felt text was needed as I looked to other making of videos for inspiration. I did feel for the bee animation explanation I needed to show some reference footage so I added the footage I used to capture bee wings.
I cut it down to only key areas such as the flight. I was worried about Stephen not including any audio for his part of the video. I did some investigating and found out the recordings he placed on the drive were far too quiet. I would've asked him to do it again but I had an ingenious idea to use the presets and effects in premier to give me a helping hand.
Using the amplifier effect on Stephens audio it did increase the sound a little making it more clearer. I was very relived to correct this. I adjusted the clips from the Avatar ride at Disney land and the flight clip from How to Train your Dragon. This was to accompany Kierans recordings, as well as the timing. I felt confident this was an improvement over the first version and that it was reasonable including clips from the original version as it felt wrong not to include the work Stephen has already done on this.
I felt the jokes needed to be exaggerated so I decided to include a funny drum base sound effect to add some comedic feel.
The video was rendered and placed on the drive to receive a review and second opinion from my team mates.
Looking back I could see that the film was improved but I also saw that it went over 10 minutes a little so I would need to look into condensing it down a little. What I liked was the inclusion of the comedic noises and preview clips to show an end result to the animation editing which was inspired by the making of Thunderbirds 2004.
However I feel perhaps the avatar ride clip would've looked good from a different scene rather than the first few scenes because I wanted to show some of the immersive experience we were inspired by. Another thing would be how I did the title sequence as I wanted an animated bee.
In conclusion the making of film did look promising but more refinement is required before submission. In future I shall double check the brief to make sure I know the length requirement of the video.
