Making of Integrated practice/Creative Collaboration: Week 12: 13/12/18: Previs assembly for preview.

In week 12 of the shared module I was assigned by Stephan to edit and put together our previsualisation for our preview this Friday. He suggested to me yesterday that I place in blank slates for the facts being shown in the animation. Whilst I liked the idea and did have a few concerns about it straying from our plan this was a preview of what we had thus far.

When I complied all the footage together I had an idea about the slate between the change in camera angles/scenes. An idea I suggested at the start of the project showing the paused sequence in the fact space as the facts were being displayed. This was inspired by the documentary Planet Dinosaur as they displayed facts and stats when zooming away from a particular scene in the programme I decided to do something similar.

Inspiration.

To help my Ideas I had taken screen shots of specific points before going to the next scene and then placed them into the footage and had it zoom out to show the facts. Stephan had previously done a document containing certain facts about bees. I felt rather confident in my work and had an idea of what facts to display such as for example how a bee could see faces would fit into the backyard scene.

I was relieved when bringing my footage together that Kieran our story board artist and secondary 2D animator had added his fish animations to the tracking footage of the pond. Meaning we could now show some of his assets too. However I was getting rather worried when I was doing the zoom out effects on the screen shots as when played back they appeared to be a little glitchy and I hoped it wouldn't appear in the final render. Thankfully though when rendered this wasn't shown but I needed to improve the movement of the picture on the first few frames.

When doing the facts I decided an image to video ratio was in order as I'm sure the audience wanted to see the bee fly around the scene more rather than just hold for a few seconds to see a fact. So I only did certain scenes. This made sense as in my reference of Planet Dinosaur had lots of footage in before it changed to showing facts and fossil records. Plus given we wanted to have the12 year old children thrilled and immersed in the experience it made sense to have some longer flying footage.

Looking back on the piece I would think I've done a very good job in piecing the footage together and how I decided to show the facts in the blank slates. I would need some thoughts and feedback from my group and team leader but I believe they will be rather satisfied with the work I have produced.

However in hindsight I feel I could've improved on some areas. I feel the zooming out of the screen shot into the upper corner needed to be constant as it looked different in every shot and sometimes didn't show that zoom out effect. I would need to ask for a second opinion from James on this matter. However I am satisfied with the way it performs other wise.

In conclusion I am satisfied with the pre vis footage and look forward to showing it to the industry experts tomorrow morning. In future I shall consider the consistent positioning of the frame so that it would look better in presentation.
