Making of Integrated Practice: Week 12: 11/12/18: Previs footage tracking.

In week 12 of Making of Integrated Practice, our group worked on doing more tracking footage for our preview animation to be shown this Friday and on the presentation we would show along with it. Stephan worked on doing the presentation and collaborated with Kieran when he arrived. I on the other hand worked on the rest of the tracking footage for our animation using After effects and tracking.

I had previously started work on the tracking footage of the gardens provided to me by Stephan using a new bee I had made for the angle the camera was working from. I was feeling rather confident in doing this work as I have managed to adjust to working with tracking since the first few scenes. I was a little concerned about changing the bee views within the animation as the bee would need to rotate to another angle such as the face when going round sprinklers or changing to the back view when going through an old tree log in the forest footage.

I was a little embarrassed that I didn't have any animation for the front view bee. However using Animate CC this was corrected and worked on a loop in the animation. I felt impressed by how I timed the change in angles in the animation by scrubbing through it and adding the keyframes or new angles at that point in time.

Stephan showed me the presentation he was working from whilst Kieran worked on finishing his fish footage for me to add later. He used the powerpoint from the presentation we did at the start of this module as a base but altered it for our work. We also had helpful advice from Holly another student in the animation course about what else to include, as well as feedback from Annabeth.

I felt a little concerned regarding the footage of the bee flying through the cars as the black tracking dot took up a majority of the footage and I realised that the viewer wouldn't be able to see what's happening in the environment. Never the less I did a tracking animation but in case Stephan changed his mind I did the alternate version of the footage which looked better in my opinion. In doing this I decided to try and alter the colour backdrop. I had a genius idea to use green screening on the sky as it was a turquoise green which I thought would apply to green screen.

I used the back drop of the forest that I did a while back and added the key light preset. I miraculously worked I was amazed. I therefore cleaned up the footage with the matte key so that it would not make the rest of the footage see through.

Looking back on todays progress, I felt that I have made substantial progress with the tracking animations and that tonight or tomorrow I could compile them all together into a final preview piece for Friday. However I feel there could've been some areas for improvement in terms of our team work, one of which being making sure in the presentation we were all shown as equals in the production and perhaps give guidance or advice for the tracking footage. However, Stephan did suggest doing something for the facts and that's having a blank slate between the change in camera angles to show the facts which he applied to the google drive.

I could see the sense in this idea and I could already visualise how it would look and perhaps how to transfer to it.

In conclusion I am rather pleased with my progress today and look forward to compiling the final precise footage. In future I shall ask for further feedback from my colleges and perhaps ask more questions or suggest ideas for the fact slates.
