Making of Intergrated Practice: Week 9: 20/11/18: Production bible and Making of vid.

In week 9's session of Making of Integrated practice we had the session to ourselves to work on our group work. The main focus in our group was putting the production bible together, as well as starting to make the making of video. Despite Kieran's absence Stephan and I worked to create these elements. Yesterday I had made a landscape template of our production bible and showed it to the group for their opinions. Stephan seemed to like the way it was labeled but suggested we didn't have the logo in the bottom corner of the page as we'd only need the title for a particular section. This was something that was pointed out by our IT tutor James.

To help us lay out our pages I brought in two of my Disney art of books to give us ideas. In producing the bible I worked on the layouts and placements of our work. Stephan suggested we had the contents page on page 6 of the bible as there were pages for our logo and intro pages. This made sense but most of the extra pages I knew were due to the binding of the text block to the book cover when binding.

I felt rather confident in designing the layout for the book and placing it together as I had experience with script to screen and my own projects. However in doing things such as adding text and reference photos I sought Stephan' opinion as he was team leader. He suggested to keep the text to a minimum and to include only photos we took for research as mood boards with others creations and photos were not allowed in the bible only the blogs, as remembered from script to screen.

Stephan also suggested instead of screenshots of the script we copied and pasted it into the text boxes. I did have some concerns whether we should've included the first version of the script in the bible to show how we developed four work. However as we looked at the art of books I realised that we were including our best art and the final script. So this made more sense to me. We didn't include any of Kierans work until we were all together to see where he would like them to go.

In turn Stephan asked for my opinions on the making of vid. He mentioned how he would cut out a few scenes or speech from the video footage we recorded of ourselves talking about our roles last week. We considered the possibility of adding some animated elements such as a stamp denying Kieran's idea of the bee keeper being the bad guy or have an animatic/previs playing along side the recorded dialogue much like most behind the scenes footage.

Annabeth seemed to like what we were doing and I expressed some concerns I had about meeting the deadline. She advised not to worry as we only had to show and submit the basic idea of our animations which was a Bee returning to its hive. I felt this put my concerns to rest.

Looking back I would think despite being one teammate short we worked rather productively and our production bible was starting to come together and our making of video was beginning to take shape. However I feel we could've improved on our organisation of our elements such as Kieran's thumbnails/storyboard work to better place them in better order of production.

In hindsight we also had some ideas placed to us about how we may use what we've learned about camera and motion tracking in After effects to use when placing the 2D and 3D elements together.

In conclusion we worked rather well together and are moving forward with our making of video and the production bible getting us on track in the next few weeks.

In future I feel we should discuss as a team what elements should be added to the production bible before we put it into production.
