Creative Collaboration: Week 7: 9/11/18: Meeting and review.

In week 7 of Creative collaboration, we had a meeting regarding recent events, one of which was the new concept pieces and the pre-visualisation animatic that Stephan made yesterday night.

In appearance I thought Stephan had done a great job on the construction of the environment and the use of the camera following the bee. However I felt there could be room for improvements. One improvement would be the camera continuously follows the bee rather than changing angle and not showing us much of the surrounding environment. Stephan explained that he was having troubles with the software, Maya and the use of the camera as this was a long process longer than the others.

This to me made sense as 3D rendering backgrounds takes more time than hand made methods. We discussed as a group about what possible angles to include in the final version, such as when doing the bird chase scene, should we consider the camera showing a shadow below the bee then switch to the bee's front view to reveal the bird chasing it.

One element of the animation I had some concerns about was how we would integrate the two methods of the 2D bee with the 3D rollercoaster background environment. We considered the possibilities of when Kieran and I animated our respective Characters in 2D we should have them green screened and then edited together in Premier Pro or After Effects. Stephan agreed with that solution. Kieran had recently finished the thumbnails for our storyboard so that meant when doing more concept work I would have a better idea of where to place elements like the hive in the woodlands.

We looked at some Bee facts on National Geographic for research and use in the animation. I felt the facts that we found were very useful and fitted with the count in our script. We only chose the most important facts which we would later record in our own words.

Our task for the weekend was to create floor plans for different parts of the route the bee would travel. Kieran would be doing the backyards, road and woodlands using my concepts as a guide. I on the other hand would be working on the park and fairground, then Stephan would use these in Maya to create a new map for the 3D background.

I felt this task seemed rather simple and easy to achieve in the weekend. Looking back I would think we discussed the right details in the project and we're starting to make progress in our pre production moving into the production phase. I feel that we could've discussed the matter of the previs and composition of the 2D and 3D elements together more so that we could get an idea of what to work with. However I believe we discussed all we needed to discuss and issued our tasks over the weekend and next week.

In future I shall look into the matter of how we may composite our animation together in terms of the two methods and discuss it with Stephan to see what he thinks of the approach.
