Looking back over the course of the Intro to the Making of module, I would think the experience has been rather enjoyable and rather challenging at the same time.
When I was first briefed on this module I was thinking it would be rather difficult and wasn't sure what to expect, but I can take away some good and bad experiences from the past year. One of my favorite activities was the mini briefs on concept art, this helped me to broaden my horizons and teach me about things that I didn't even know about my chosen practice, one of which was the colour ways sheet which helped to determine the colours of the characters clothes and appearance. This helped me to determine the colours of my own characters such as the Lone Watcher which I was beginning to develop for my story.
One area of great personal development was the Rostrum and 3D multiplane briefs, as this was what showed me the type of animation used in motion comic books, and what software to use After Effects and Premier Pro. Whilst the method can be challenging I felt it suited my particular skills set just like stop motion animation it clicked with me straight away. The fact that I introduced what I learned to my own illustrations has allowed me to breathe life into what I'd drawn, it gave me another alternative avenue of animation to follow.
There were times in the module where it proved to be very challenging, such as in developing the video essay. This would be because I wasn't sure which subject to follow and how much time it would take with conflicting modules and dead lines. In honesty picking Animation history wasn't one of my best ideas as I hadn't done a history report in some time but I chose it because I wanted to test myself and see if I would be any good at it, I was feeling inspired by Whisper of the Heart as I was doing so. I rather enjoyed designing the zoetrope and getting to create an animation toy to use in the essay, followed by the theme of time travel.
However I was getting stressed to the near end of developing the essay as everyday became a grueling challenge and I was worried the stress of rendering my essay would be too much on my mac leaving me with no means of doing my work. However I persisted in doing my work. I was starting to doubt myself when I was loosing some sounds and dialogue in my animation and the fact that I went over the designated time limit knocked my confidence even more. However I knew when to rely on others for help such as advice from Annabeth or the encouragement of my family.
I have rather enjoyed my time on Intro to the making of module its put a lot of things into perspective and has broadened my horizons in concept artwork and animation techniques that I wish to pursue in the near future for my own work. In the next year of the course I would like to do some more work based in concept art and the use of Rostrum and 3D multiplane animation.
