In week 12 of Animation 102, it was focused primarily on doing our showreels for the animation module. It was also a chance to show off what work that we had done over this last week and answer some questions we had. In particular I asked about the show reel if it needed to be three maya and three stop motion animations like before or just as one media. He assured me the show reel, was to show our best work in the exercises and it was a free for all piece. This meant I could use any exercise of my choosing in either Maya or Stopmotion.
This cleared up a lot of things for me, and so I showed off my work being the heavy crate and my sneaking around. I received positive feedback along with the good use of heal to toe movement in the armature, and the use of performance in my heavy crate exercise. However I needed to improve upon my work in the sneaking exercise as in some of my work such as Maya I needed to work on the timeline and the way the rig moved up and down as it walked. This was something to remember later on, but for the time being my main focus was the show reel.
I decided to work on it in premier, and remembering from lessons in Intro to the making of show reels were a maximum of 1 minute. However when I was working to cut down my work it took a lot out of the animation I was using. James showed me some helpful things about premier which could be of help to me such as looking at the clips in a list view. I asked Johny about the show reel and he suggested in terms of the walk cycle that it be done three times as a loop and to have a title at the bottom of each of the exercises describing what they were and I had an idea. I remembered a while back I saw a video on Youtube introduced with a blurred image of the video being played.
I decided to attempt something similar on my show reel. I felt I didn't know how to apply a blur so the best place to check was in the Video effects options and I found there was an option for the Gaussian blur so I applied it to a copy of some of my exercises.
Later on I set to work on refining some of my Maya exercises such as the pushing on the wall. Remembering my feedback from the lesson on this exercise, I needed to keep the feet held in position when he was pushing on the wall. Opening the graph editor and playing back the animation allowed me to assess the keyframes. I knew they would be under translate z given that was the movement of the feet in the frames. I played over the animation and saw which keyframes to delete, and when removed the feet stayed in place when they were played back. I was amazed by this development. I had this rendered and decided to add this to my show reel.
Going back to the show reel I added some music to the show reel from the audio library on Youtube, I was tempted to add the Jazz me Blue music but I felt that if I did it would be counted as a double submission as I used this in my video essay for intro to making of. Thankfully I had some more music from the library such as the Requium cello, music. I added this and showed what I'd done to Johny and said that the three times loop on the animations needed to be applied to all of them. However I was feeling that I was getting mixed messages about show reels, as I was under the impression it was 1 minute but Johny told me for 102 it would be as long as it needed to be. So over the next few hours I made those corrections. He also suggested the use of different music that suited the work and less sad.
So I found some dramatic music called epic battle speech which suited the development of my work in this show reel. This was then saved and I had this posted on Facebook for a second opinion.
The animations added were some of my best work, such as the walking in Maya as I felt this was one of the most difficult of tasks but lead to a clearer refinement. Other tasks involved the irritating insect short story as I rather enjoyed doing that task, along with the lifting crates in stopmotion. Along with the refined pushing animation there was the second attempt at the lifting heavy crate constraints as I felt that was one of my better Maya exercises as well. In terms of stopmotion I added the pose to pose animation as that was one of the near first animations that I actually perfected the first time and it performed very well.

Show reel Version 2:
Looking back on my work on developing the show reel and refining my work I felt I was on track to submitting my work, and all I needed to do was update my blog work on 102 and my other modules. However I would've done some things differently. I would've looked at doing more work on refining my other exercises in Maya or do some more attempts on some of my other exercises. Knowing that not all the exercises needed to be Maya was a small comforting thought did help in my confidence that I was doing things right in my work and hopefully I would get good grades.
In conclusion I feel I've made significant progress on my work and that I'm close for a full submission. In the future of the course I shall look forward to doing more stopmotion animation as this was one of my best strengths in Animation.
