Story telling script to screen: Easter break: 7/4/18- 8/4/18: Floorplans and script:

Near the end of the easter break I worked overtime to create the floor plans and script for my story. I decided to start with the floor plans of the shoe shop run by Joseph and his uncle, and I had an idea for how it would look. They would be living in the upper floors as in the 19th century it seemed like people were trying to make ends meat in the working class and finding a place to live would be hard and in the case of John running a shop and raising his nephew would be most difficult. However there was a challenge to doing the floor plan and that was figuring out what would go where and what it would look like. I drew up a rough floor plan and then conducted some research into 19th century working class homes.

This was very difficult as there wasn't much to research on either Pinterest or google images, and this was a growing concern as I would need an idea of what to work with but I did find some images of viable use and made them into a design mood board. I felt I needed to do a floor plan of the opera house that Joseph would be delivering the shoes to and where he meets Elise. This being 19th century France I selected the Opera Garnier a famous opera house in Paris one I was mesmerised by in the film Ballerina and trying to even find it in my college trip to Paris. On that matter I felt it was a good idea to add research images of paris from the photos that I took on my trip to France with Trafford College back in March 2017.

Research boards.
This helped me layout the rooms and I noticed how the living area and the kitchen tended to be the same room in some homes, and I decided to have Josephs room in the attic as it provided a view of some buildings in Paris and the eiffel tower. Using my photos I made the exterior of the shop along with my Pinterest research and it created an authentic shoe shop in my opinion. This was scanned in and edited in photoshop. I felt it would make more sense if my floor plans were like blue prints so using what I'd learned about creating smooth lines in Photoshop I coloured the lines in white and the background in blue this made it more professional.

I had done a rough floor plan of the opera stage based of research images and my own personal view but I felt that I had to retain some authenticity in the set design. This was put on hold as I needed to do the script for the animation. I was rather nervous as the animatic would be 1 minute long and I needed to write something that would fit in that time frame, but I decided to write up a draft get feedback from my tutors and classmates and see if I could condense it in anyway. According to the brief this had to be no longer than five pages so I tried to stick to requirement.

I typed in a word document using what I'd learned about script writing from before the easter break and I felt this was the chance to put what I'd learned to good use. I had finished my script including very majestic moments and even the first meeting but at the same time I was thinking how this would be translated into an animatic.

Looking back on this I would think that I had done good work on the floor plans and mms script and hope that the feedback would help me to refine this into a final draft. However, there were a few things I would do differently, I would possibly look at other examples of one minute long animatics to get an idea of what I would be working with. In hindsight I should've done some research into 19th century home interiors before hand to see what I would be working with and get an idea for floor plans. However I would think that some aspects of my story act on imagination and instinct. If I had more time I would finalise the floor plan and work on style frames but I do have an idea of what to do and will work on it before the next session with Annabeth.

In conclusion I am relived that I have gotten my script finished and it may meet the expectations that I was hoping for in this short preview of my feature length novel. I would think in future I would start research into time based settings before I try to execute a floor plan to gain insight into what rooms and homes looked like even watch films based in the 19th century.
