Elise's Character design

Elise's fashion designs

Elise's emotions.

Over the last two weeks I created Elises character design and emotions using what I'd learned from past experience and from the mood boards that I'd created on 19th Century fashion and hair style. From my own journal I sketched the original design I had for Elise, but with new found images I used the research board to perfect my design for the character. I was going to do emotions next but I decided to work on alternate costume designs for Elise as in Summer I was planning to turn this into a full featured novel and having alternate costume designs was a good idea to me. This was a leaf I took from art of books that I have at home as the Art of Frozen contained costume designs it seemed right to include this for the character.

While working on her emotions I came up with the very few that came to mind natural, blushing, sarcastic, saddened, crying/upset, loving look, bewilderment, frustration and overjoyed communicating them with my own response and using different hair styles. The hair styling on the formal outfit was rather difficult even following the research boards was much more difficult capturing the braids. I wanted to show her with her hair down and wanted to make it look rather scruffy and free like it would be when untied from the braids. This would be a potential scene idea for my novel so this was kept in store for now.

Once completed I looked over the character design and it seemed promising but it would first need to be put through its paces in terms of digital colouring and further development. Otherwise I was pleased with the work on the character and this gives me something to work with when it came time to look into how she would look as an anthropomorphic animal for my ideas.

I may in future consider doing a turn around of the character in her ballerina outfit and further design the final ballerina outfit for the next few weeks leading up to the animatic and scene plans. This has shown how far I'm getting into my character design aspect and soon I'll be able to move onto scenes, backgrounds and floor-plans. I may start to scan in some of my sketch work to begin my production bible in Indesign.
