In week 10 of Animation Context, we looked back on the brief for the module so that we could see if what we'd done so far had met the requirements and to remind us what we needed to submit for the module itself. We were reminded of next weeks activities including the Pecha Kucha presentation for Intro to making of, which had caught me completely by surprise. This was because lately I felt that the work loads of each module were conflicting with the other making it hard for me to prioritise my work and what needs to be submitted for when, this was something I would need to discuss with Annabeth.
In terms of the task for next week we would be doing a show and tell task to display our work on our chosen Context project for our magazine articles. We could have a power point presentation if we wanted to but Johny informed us that it would be a simple show and tell task. In terms of looking at the brief we went over some of the main aims of the module to see if we personally thought we had achieved the desired outcomes. I felt I had achieved some of the desired aims such as developing knowledge and understanding of the students selected area. I knew some things about concept art but what I didn't know was that it was the very spine of the film since without the visual drawings from the script the animators couldn't create or animate the characters or even make the film.
In revisiting last sessions work I was reminded about the format I was doing the essay in which was a magazine article using columns and a balance between images and text. I took this into consideration for my mock up piece. Over the course of the session we discussed the topics of our essays and how important it was to include the key practitioners in our work, and when Chris mentioned his work on advanced technologies I felt that seemed like an interesting approach, and Stuarts topic of video game animation, its development and what he'd learned from it this showed he looked deep into his chosen topic.
A topic I found of interest was Johny's discussion about a man named Arthur. C.Clark who looked at the topic of futurology which was predicting the future through the eyes of now. I felt this to be familiar as many people in animation and design have predictions about what the future will look like , such as the film Blade Runner which was based in the far future and people had flying cars and aliens lived among us. Johny stated that Arthur had predicted the future many times and have proven to be correct, this to me, sounded like he had traveled to the future in a Delorean, much like Back to the Future.
I took to heart an element that was mentioned in the context area of the subject when was this
created? I felt I needed to know a bit about concept arts origin rather than what was being said now. One area of concern that I had was submitting the blog as a PDF since after using Blogbooker it wouldn't do entries from 2017 only current entries. Johny advised talking to Annabeth on this matter.
I decided to talk to Johny on the matter of my essay feedback to better understand what he was refereeing to and we were able to determine the key points that I was trying to make in my essay. However I was a little concerned about losing some of the more key information in the essay such as visual development. However I was assured that I could still use the
essay draft to include the information already recorded.
Looking back on this session I would think that looking at the brief has helped me to get a clear idea of what to submit and when to submit it for. Even learning how it was okay to submit things early was useful knowledge, and has made me wonder if the same applied to the other modules. Learning about the case studies of the practitioners has made me consider adding research into my subject of concept art and the experts I decided to use. I would possibly have discussed this matter with Johny further to see what needed to be included in the blog work so that I didn't miss anything.
In hindsight I would think that I should've taken into consideration the case study of all my chosen artists and illustrators but to receive this information at a date dangerously close to the hand in time is not a good sign of progress. In conclusion I would think that todays lesson, and advice from Johny will help me considerably in developing my essays draft but for now I must focus on prioritising my work as a to do list starting with Intro to The Making of. In future I shall look back on the module brief to better understand requirements and submissions much like I used to in college.
