In our Animation Context module we would be writing an essay in magazine format but in order to do so we needed to understand the written aspect of the module. This was one of the main focusses on todays session covering the Bibliography, annotated bibliography, Turnitin, critical writing and the Blooms Taxonomy. Before we delve into this matter we recapped elements of last week and from before the christmas term, such as the PDF about how we may consider approaching writing our essays. One thing that was clear was in our writing efforts in the essay we should be harvesting our ideas and what to incorporate within our essays. Johny told us there were several modes that we were in for our essay and one of those was " editing when you should be writing meaning we would need to write out our work first before we edit it into a final version as it would save time and possible stress.
When submitting our work it would be put through a program called turnitin which was a tool used to prevent any plagiarism within a students work. From what I could understand it compares the assignment against past students or existing work to see if we had copied an existing piece of work. This was something we could use to our advantage we could use it to compare our work to make sure we didn't plagiarise anything that could cost us a mark in our work. This did make sense to me and may consider looking into it.
One thing that Johny brought our attention to was an element known as an annotated bibliography. The annotated bibliography was a method of showing the tutor/examiner that we had done some reading in the books/articles we had selected for research. In a certain way it was adding notes of what we had learned from reading the research notes/ books. This was an interesting element to add to a bibliography as I hadn't heard of annotating a bibliography before but I was learning new things everyday. The annotations consisted of condensed notes and citation records of our research sources along with a brief summary of the book as a literature review. Johny recommended that we should keep a list of what we read as it would help with the bibliography and the annotations.
Whilst some universities or academic education had requirements Johny disclosed to us the requirements he would like us to consider for our essays. These were as follows;

Whilst some universities or academic education had requirements Johny disclosed to us the requirements he would like us to consider for our essays. These were as follows;
- 200 words of Annotation
- C.R.A.P test - currency, reliability/relevance,Authority/audience, purpose/point of view.
- Outline our main argument and maintain it ( The world of Concept art)
- Relevance to your topic (Make sure the research sources and quotes are relevant to what we were writing about.)
We were reminded we had other research sources besides books, magazines or the internet, we could also use the library search in the university to look for the books/ ebook articles we needed for research. Whilst ebooks were helpful in some cases we were advised that "we read twenty percent faster on paper". To help us in elements such as the abstracts/description/spoilers we could use a software called Mendeley which would help us in our bibliography's and it was where we could "throw reading material into a structure." This to me felt like a sensible system but given I'm still learning the Harvard referencing system I would possibly consider the idea of the list.
Johny soon introduced us to the Blooms Taxonomy diagram and it seemed to be a system of categorising our work and had levels of critical writing in the work itself. The different sections explained what we could do in our work such as justifying or understand your decision, draw common connections among ideas and apply them to new situations using the six basic steps create, evaluate, analyse, apply, understand and remember. This was an interesting diagram but it seemed hard to understand this I felt was something I would need to look into.
The overal point of the diagram was to stress the idea of rising up the pyramid as we worked or improved.
We were then shown a simple diagram that could help us generate the idea of critical thinking this was a simple diagram showing the aspects of description, analysis and evaluation. The bottom line of this lesson was that we needed to think about when we were doing our essays our opinion must come into a conclusion after everyone else's opinion on the matter that we were looking at, but one thing that confused me was that sometimes opinions can never be wrong which in all honesty didn't make sense to me so I would need to think about it.
What I could take from this lesson was that there was another way to structure our essays and that we had to consider a few things in writing and refining our work. Our task for this week was to do produce two entries of annotated bibliography, we could do this in our statement of intents if we wanted to or as a list we were advised to "make it happen and keep it"
Looking back on the lesson it was clear that I would possibly need to widen my search beyond what I did for my concept art poster, and after this morning I may wish to look at finding magazines relating to my chosen topic and look back through my research bibliography to see whats relevant and make a list and practice annotating the bibliography list. This maybe something new and challenging but thats the fun of a course such as this discovering new challenges in which to challenge ourselves.
