Description:
Reflecting back on the advice that Annabeth gave me yesterday about how its about quality not quantity and that the storyboarding was about prototyping I began deciding what aspects of my animation to cut out and which to keep. I decided to cut out some of the argumentative conversations in my animation but at the same time maintain some comedy within my animation piece. I continued the work I left of from yesterday and started the conversation of where the bin was describing his job and cracking a police joke. I looked back to the mouth movements tutorial video as I went along and made some pauses in the conversation. However there were some instances in the project where somehow the frames would disappear or get deleted some how causing me to start again. Later in the animation where the rubbish ball was introduced I did some cells on acetate one without eyes and one with blank eyeballs so that I could draw in the expressions and eyeballs. However one issue that I found was animating the two separate as with the first trash ball I had it flying into the bin and bouncing away putting my knowledge of ball weights from animation 101 to good use.
One other thing would be the speech being said in the animation and sometimes I couldn’t tell what they said and would have to rewind the frames and depict what was being said and some times the text and animation was out of sync. This was turning into a disaster and the deadline was only two days away for this piece and I wasn’t sure what to do. I would need to consider a new plan in the morning and perhaps look at it with the rest of the group.
Feelings:
When working on this animation piece I felt determined and motivated to get my work done by the end of today even if I had to stay up till midnight. I was working harder than I ever had before even back in my early days of Level 3 Art and Design back in college, but over time I began to feel tired and slow despite the refreshments I had. With the issue of the mouth movement frames disappearing beginning to reoccur I was getting worried about how this would effect my time scaling and near half past eleven in the night the fact that the mouth movements and timing didn’t link up I was getting stressed and even angry after all the hard work that I had put into this project all day and to see it fall apart was heart breaking. I was clearly tired and stressed with the work load and the looming deadline.
Evaluation:
Looking back over the experience I would think this must be how animators felt when producing their creations and even the famous Walt Disney wouldn’t have gotten some of his work right on the first go. I could imagine that from this I would think I would need to look at this disappearing frame issue and see if it is something that people come across in Adobe Animate. One good element would be my determination and persistence to get my work completed on time though I’d met a few obstacles in my path and began to get stressed I knew one thing to never give up to find a way.

Analysis
Looking back at the situation of the issues I faced during the animating process and that I was using a process that was completely new to me and I realised that I should’ve practiced this more in Adobe Animate to become more aware of the issue of disappearing frames. Looking at the matter of cutting out a few scenes from my storyboard I would’ve possibly taken more consideration into what could stay and what could go and be more aware of the advice from Annabeth that its about quality not quantity. One thing I should’ve done is looked at further tutorials for this project of lip syncing to get a better understanding.
Video log of my work.
Conclusion:
In conclusion if this was ever brought up as a subject of animation again I would’ve done things differently such as consider and ask for opinions on what scenes seemed the most important for this animation to have or cut out in terms of the audience. One element I defiantly would’ve improved upon was do a practice piece first before proceeding to the actual piece itself if I had more time to work on this. Otherwise I was pleased with the experience and whilst stressful its given me some insight into the way the animators feel when doing their work day in day out.
Action Plan:
For future animations like this on the course I would possibly consider first sketching out the mouth movements first and the letters above them to act as a guide to avoid having to back track and translate which would cost time. Another thing to do in future was to save the file at different stages of the project to ensure that I wouldn’t lose any frames or mouth movements in the animation timeline. I would possibly speak to a tutor about this approach or about the issues that I was facing so that I could learn from it and be better prepared.
