Upon learning the feedback from my previous attempts at this method in stopmotion I tried to do a third attempt at the movement and remember the positions from maya. This time though I decided to try something new to help in the pendulum movement. I decided to record a pendulum movement with my keys to get the positioning of the movements within the swing of the keys. I watched that swing over and over to try and get the positioning of the swings right when it looses power in the swing. See below
With this information I began to set up the stop motion studio turning on the lights and setting up the camera tripod and the stop motion pro software, using the hand out in the studio space. I then mapped out the pivot point in the space using a rule to map out the swing start point and even the swinging positions of the swing when loosing power. However when I looked closer at the desk it seems there were some faint sketched marks within the desk and it looked like someone had the same idea and leaving this behind could help me in terms of trying not to extend the string when swinging the pendulum. I judge the length of the string to about 13cm and using this I set to work on doing the animation placing the cube at the end of the rule.
I then started using the stop motion software to take the frames for the stop motion, and I took this slow as I didn't want to make any mistakes in the frame order, and taking in some of Joe's advice I made the swing faster as it swung to the -70 position on this faint path much like in Maya, and even took into account the loss of power within the swing. To show loss of power I shot two frames per shot to show it slowing down to a halt something that could be seen when correcting the graph editor in Maya. I kept in mind what Johnny had said regarding using Maya as a blue print for stop motion and I could faintly remember some elements from the positions in the software and translated them into the stop motion and it seemed to work. see the end results below:
Looking back I would like to think its good fortune that I found this tiny graph on the studio table, and it may have just refined my understanding of the pendulum movement in stop motion, but I will check with my tutors before considering a final product in this animation, my next step will be to finally refine the movement within Maya and hopefully get a more positive result in the work. Otherwise I was pleased with the general work on the stop motion and even tried something new in terms of tactics in calculating movements and even referencing to my work in Maya.
