Story telling script to screen: Easter break: Elise's public dress colour ways sheet.

I worked on doing a colourways sheet for a dress that Elise wears in public in the feature length novel version of my story that I intend to write in the summer break. Using my research boards into 19th century women fashion I created a dress design and made the initial colours in Clip Studio Paint. The fur and hair colour I created using the character colour ways sheet and added some colour to the dress. The initial colour was a form of dark violet colours and black for the shoes.

This was saved as a separate file and then began adjusting the colours with the Hue Saturation and luminosity. I focused on the dress layer only as this was the main focus of the sheet. The adjustment of the colours made it into a darker shade of purple grey colours, and I seemed to like the looks of the design with this colour.

Working through multiple colour ideas I felt I was working more in my element of creativity. I could see
this when the colours were changed to a more brown colour similar to elements in my research board. In altering the colours I decided to experiment with the colour balance tool to create a red coloured shade for the dress and a more oak like colour within the design, I felt it was looking more like a dress from the 19th century.

Hue, Saturation and Luminosity experiment.

These were then saved as individual JPEG files and then brought together in a colour ways sheet, but it was rather difficult getting them to the correct height and size I could see which colours seemed to work better with the dress but I'm still undecided on which one to use.

Looking back on this I was rather satisfied with this and it gives me an idea of what to look at for the feature length novel. I would possibly think that I could improve on it such as looking closely at the character and see which dress colour would best fit the character pending on the scene or setting. In hindsight giving more colour options was a good idea to see which would look good for the story.
However I'm still undecided on which colour to use as they all look like something you would see in 19th century dresses.

In hindsight I would possibly looked at a second opinion on this matter so it was placed on Facebook for the groups opinion. I could possibly look at alternate colour ideas for the dress. However I would think I'm more than satisfied with the colour ways sheet and it would make a good addition to the production bible and I may see how this looks against style frames to help in my decision for which colour to use for the novel story. In future I shall do deeper research into 19th century dresses and see what colours look good for the story setting in this particular timeline and make it look more authentic for the story.

Otherwise though I'm looking forward to developing the story further along and my next step would be the turnaround sheets and style frames for the production bible.
